Living in Parkway Crossing, Westlake, OH: A Neighbor’s Guide to Townhome Life

An Overview of Parkway Crossing

Parkway Crossing is a newer townhome community in northern Westlake, tucked just west of Cahoon Road and north of Detroit Road near Westchester Parkway. Built by Pulte Homes between 2020 and 2023, the neighborhood includes approximately 144 limited-maintenance townhomes surrounded by mature-looking wooded areas and landscaped common spaces.

The community is divided into several sections, with streets including Bayberry Court, Serviceberry Court, Woodside Drive, Ironwood Court, South Greenway Drive, South Parkside Drive, Birchwood Court, North Greenway Drive, and North Parkside Drive. That street layout gives Parkway Crossing a cohesive, residential feel without making it feel like one long row of identical buildings.

The overall impression is polished, quiet, and convenient. It is a good fit for buyers who want newer construction and less exterior maintenance than a traditional single-family home, while still having more space and privacy than a typical apartment.

Community Vibe

Parkway Crossing has a calm suburban atmosphere. The streets are relatively quiet, the homes are modern, and residents often enjoy front porches, attached garages, patios, and small outdoor areas rather than large, time-consuming yards.

Because the neighborhood was developed recently, many homes have similar architectural styles and floor plans. That consistency can appeal to buyers who prefer a clean, planned appearance. It also means the area does not yet have the older trees, historic character, or individually distinctive houses found in some established Westlake neighborhoods.

The community feels social without being overly busy. You may see neighbors walking dogs, bringing in groceries, or visiting outside on pleasant evenings, but Parkway Crossing is not designed around a commercial village center. For most residents, the neighborhood’s appeal comes from peace and convenience rather than nightlife or a highly active streetscape.

Homes and Housing Options

Parkway Crossing is primarily a townhome community, not a mix of detached houses and apartments. Pulte’s plans generally offer two-story layouts with approximately 1,854 to 2,064 square feet, three bedrooms, and two-and-a-half bathrooms.

That setup works well for a variety of buyers:

Many homes have open-concept kitchen and living areas, modern finishes, second-floor bedrooms, and attached two-car garages. The tradeoff is that townhome living usually means less private yard space and closer neighbors than a detached house. Buyers should also review the homeowners association rules, monthly fees, snow removal arrangements, landscaping responsibilities, and rental restrictions before purchasing.

Walkability and Everyday Convenience

Parkway Crossing is walkable in the sense that residents can comfortably stroll around the neighborhood, walk a dog, or take a short evening walk on the residential streets. The internal layout is pedestrian-friendly enough for casual exercise, and the wooded surroundings add visual interest.

It is not, however, a walk-to-everything neighborhood. Most residents will still drive for groceries, restaurants, coffee, school activities, and errands. Cahoon Road, Detroit Road, and Westchester Parkway are the key nearby routes, and Interstate 90 is accessible through the Crocker Road and Bassett Road area.

That balance is typical of Westlake: easy driving, good suburban access, and some neighborhood walking, but not the kind of dense pedestrian lifestyle associated with downtown Cleveland or older inner-ring suburbs.

Schools and Family-Friendliness

Families are drawn to Parkway Crossing in part because it is served by Westlake City Schools. The district’s schools include Westlake Elementary School, Dover Intermediate School, Lee Burneson Middle School, and Westlake High School.

School assignments can change and may depend on the exact address, so buyers should confirm current boundaries directly with the district before making an offer. Westlake Elementary, for example, is located on Center Ridge Road, while the neighborhood itself is closer to Cahoon Road and Detroit Road.

For families, Parkway Crossing offers several practical advantages: newer homes, attached garages, relatively low exterior-maintenance demands, and streets that feel less heavily traveled than nearby commercial corridors. The three-bedroom layouts are also useful for households needing a bedroom, playroom, or home office.

The main limitation is that children may not be able to walk to every school or activity. Depending on age and destination, families may rely on school transportation, driving, or organized youth programs.

Parks, Green Space, and Recreation

One of Parkway Crossing’s strongest features is its location near Westlake’s parks and recreation network. Clague Park, at Clague Road and Hilliard Boulevard, covers 78 acres and includes walking trails, ball fields, tennis courts, an inclusive playground, a duck pond, picnic areas, and the Westlake Aquatic Center and Peterson Pool.

Westlake also maintains Recreation Center Park, Roman Park, Tri-City Park, and Bradley Nature Park. The city’s Recreation Center Park includes an outdoor walking and running track, sports fields, a playground, a fishing lake, and additional open space.

Residents who enjoy nature may especially appreciate the nearby wooded areas and access toward Bradley Nature Park and the Cleveland Metroparks’ Bradley Woods Reservation. These spaces make it easier to add outdoor time to an otherwise suburban routine.

Safety and Day-to-Day Feel

Parkway Crossing generally has the quiet, orderly atmosphere many people expect from a newer suburban development. The neighborhood’s internal streets are residential, and there is no major commercial traffic running through the community.

Still, no neighborhood is entirely free from risk. Buyers should review current police reports, ask about lighting and visitor parking, and pay attention to package security and garage access. Westlake’s Police Department provides community-policing services, public safety updates, and access to police reports through the city.

For the most accurate picture, prospective residents should look at recent city and state crime data rather than relying only on online neighborhood ratings. Ohio’s crime dashboard notes that reporting participation can vary by agency and that data should be interpreted carefully.

Access to Downtown and Major Employers

Parkway Crossing is well positioned for west-side commuters. Interstate 90 provides access toward Cleveland, the eastern suburbs, and western communities, while Crocker Road and Detroit Road connect residents with Westlake’s business and retail areas.

Crocker Park is one of the area’s major destinations for shopping, dining, entertainment, offices, and services. Downtown Cleveland is farther away, but the highway access makes commuting there practical for many residents, with travel time depending heavily on traffic and weather.

The location also works well for employees of Westlake-area medical facilities, corporate offices, retailers, schools, and professional businesses. You get a suburban home base without being isolated from the broader Cleveland job market.

What Residents Are Likely to Love Most

The biggest appeal of Parkway Crossing is the combination of new construction, low-maintenance living, wooded surroundings, and Westlake convenience. Residents can enjoy a modern townhome, attached garage, nearby parks, established shopping, and access to well-known suburban amenities without taking on the upkeep of a large older property.

The honest tradeoff is that Parkway Crossing is more convenient than walkable, more planned than historic, and more townhome-oriented than spacious. If you want a quiet, newer community with easy access to Westlake schools, parks, I-90, and Crocker Park, it is worth a close look. If you want a large yard, unique older architecture, or restaurants directly outside your front door, another Westlake neighborhood may be a better match.
